Payments and Foreclosure Assistance

Relief may be possible for some consumers who experienced foreclosure actions during 2009 and 2010. Payments and foreclosure assistance may be available for homeowners who lost a primary residence due to foreclosure or had foreclosure action taken against them during these years. Beginning in April, 2013, some homeowners are eligible for compensation.  Click here to read the press release from the US Department of Treasury’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Annual Report

Our just-published annual report highlights Financial Pathways’ activities during the last fiscal year. During this year we served nearly 10,000 clients. We are proud to report that overall, a total of 28,000 clients and their spouses, children, and other household members directly benefitted from our programs. This includes

· 1800 people who contacted us for help in becoming homeowners

· 1500 seniors and their spouses helped to manage expenses and pay bills

· 4000 attendees of financial education classes and workshops.

· 585 homeowners avoided foreclosure through counseling

Large Grant Awarded

We are also pleased to share the news that earlier this year Financial Pathways was one of 47 North Carolina housing counseling agencies to be awarded grant money from the North Carolina Attorney General’s (AG) initiative under the National Mortgage Settlement (a pool of $13 million being managed by the N.C. Housing Finance Agency). This generous support will help us maintain and expand our agency’s capacity to provide free help to homebuyers and homeowners, especially those facing foreclosure.

Payday Lending

Financial Pathways adds its voice to those speaking out against letting payday lenders resume business in North Carolina. Cash-strapped consumers do need funds for emergencies – but payday loans with high interest rates are a bad option. Instead, North Carolinians need access to financial education and coaching to increase their savings ability, improve credit scores, reduce consumer debt, and make use of affordable financial products and services.

About Us

Who we are: Financial Pathways of the Piedmont (formerly Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Forsyth County) is an independent nonprofit agency that has served the greater Winston Salem area for more than forty years. We believe that EVERY individual and family deserves the opportunity to achieve financial well-being.

Mission: To provide professional consumer education and comprehensive financial and housing guidance to all members of the community.

Who we serve: We serve individuals and families of many kinds: students, young adults just starting out, senior citizens, and everyone in between. Our clients come from many different income levels but they all have something in common: an economic challenge or setback and hope for a better financial future.

Why we do what we do

Many Piedmont communities have been deeply hurt by the economic recession and housing crisis. Today, in nearly every indicator of household financial health, Winston-Salem and Forsyth County fall below the national average. Many families teeter on the edge of financial instability.

How we help people

We help people to

· improve credit records

· prevent foreclosure

· understand bankruptcy options

· learn to budget, save, and manage personal finances

· find ways to reduce unmanageable debt

· become homeowners

· for older adults, get in-home financial management assistance to maintain independence

Financial Pathways believes that every individual and family deserves the opportunity to achieve financial well-being.
